ŞOK Marketler continues to expand its Pesticide Analysis initiative, launched at the end of 2025 to strengthen food safety in fresh fruit and vegetables, to cover different product categories. During this period, when preparations for winter begin, Rio tomatoes, which are particularly preferred for making tomato paste and preserves, are inspected at the Pesticide Analysis Laboratories located at ŞOK Marketler’s supply platforms, in addition to the controls required under applicable regulations, before being dispatched to stores. Rio tomatoes found to comply with the Turkish Food Codex have begun to be shipped to stores. Following tomatoes, peppers and citrus fruits, the pesticide analysis initiative is expanding to include garlic and seedless grapes.

Analysis results can be accessed via QR code through Cepte ŞOK

The analysis results of products that undergo pesticide testing are also made available to consumers. Rio tomato crates feature the “Pesticide Analysis Completed” label, and customers can scan the QR code on the label to access the product’s analysis report via the Cepte ŞOK application.

Support for producers, traceability from farm to table

ŞOK Marketler’s “Good Agricultural Practices from Farm to Table” model, which has been implemented since 2020, further strengthens food safety and traceability together with the pesticide analysis initiative. Through its contract farming model, ŞOK Marketler establishes direct and long-term partnerships with farmers and supports the sustainability of production through purchase guarantees. Agricultural engineers provide farmers in the field with training and feedback on proper pesticide application, registered production, sustainable agricultural practices and harvest timing. The results of pesticide analyses conducted after harvest are also shared with producers, and guidance is provided on areas for improvement where necessary. In this way, pesticide control is treated not merely as the final stage before a product reaches the shelves, but as an integral part of the entire production and supply process from farm to table.

Uğur Demirel: “We want our customers to prepare for winter with peace of mind”

ŞOK Marketler CEO Uğur Demirel, commented on Rio tomatoes reaching store shelves after undergoing analysis: “At ŞOK Marketler, we approach food safety from a farm-to-table perspective. We are gradually expanding the pesticide analysis initiative we launched in our own laboratories by including different fruit and vegetable categories in the system. During this period, when households begin preparing food for winter, we are also conducting pesticide controls on Rio tomatoes, an essential ingredient for tomato paste and preserves, before offering them to our customers in our stores. We want our customers to be able to prepare for winter with peace of mind. By sharing product analysis results with our customers through QR codes, we are making this process transparent. At the same time, we support our producers through field training and contribute to strengthening sustainable agriculture. In the coming period, we will continue to open new laboratories and conduct analyses on an even wider range of products.”
